Who Should Start Against Georgia?

Eddie will announce his team for Saturday’s match against Georgia tomorrow. Given the awful performance against Namibia last night, surely he is going to make a few changes to the line-up. This would be my first choice to take the field on Saturday:

15 Geordan Murphy
14 Shane Horgan (assuming he’s fit)
13 Brian O’Driscoll
12 Gordon D’Arcy
11 Andrew Trimble
10 Ronan O’Gara
9 Peter Stringer
1 Marcus Horan
2 Jerry Flannery
3 John Hayes
4 Donncha O’Callaghan
5 Paul O’Connell
6 Neil Best
7 David Wallace
8 Denis Leamy

Replacements:

16 Rory Best
17 Simon Best
18 Malcom O’Kelly
19 Alan Quinlan
20 Eoin Reddan
21 Paddy Wallace
22 Girvan Dempsey

If Horgan isn’t fit, then Trimble at 11, Murphy at 14, Dempsey at full-back and Hickie on the bench. Ireland were lacking aggression in the back row, and I reckon Neil Best is the man to instill that. Flannery to replace Rory Best, as he is a better hooker overall, and he would be packing down with, and throwing to, fellow Munstermen.

If you were Eddie, what starting XV would you pick?

  1. The same first 15 as yourself Gerry, but with one exception. Get rid of Best at 6 and play Quinlan… More to offer than Best I think. Big tackles seem to be the Ulsterman’s sole asset.

  2. how about a more experimental line up ? he now knows what the first XV can (suposedly) do so why not pick a few of the fringe lads v georgia to give them game time and options for the bigger games if needed ?

  3. Watch for Georgia’s national flag …

    Remind you of anybody else’s?

  4. Vaguely like England’s, except for the little red crosses in the middle of each of the white panels.
